1.      Titles:                        This league shall be known as the Plaza Summer Trio and shall be governed by rules adopted by its own membership and by the general rules of the United States Bowling Association.  Said rules are to be enforced by the elected officials of the league in cooperation with the Morris County Association Secretary.  Elected officials of the league are:  President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer.

2.      Officers:                   Each team must elect one of its members to be Captain of said team, and they shall be totally responsible for all moneys payable to the league.  They will also be responsible for the behavior of his team members and for fielding a legal line-up for the purpose of competitive bowling.  The Captain is also a line officer and, as such, shall have voting rights regarding team and league decisions.

3.      Legal Line-Up:         A legal line-up in this league shall be made up of one to three bowlers (they may be either regulars or substitutes).  Substitutes shall be floaters and shall be allowed to bowl for any team where needed.  Every sub must have bowled at least 3 games in this league during weeks 1 through 13 to be able to bowl on the last 2 nights.  No new subs may bowl on the last 2 nights.

4.      Bowling Schedule:   This league, for 2023, shall run for a period of 15 weeks, and all nights will be position nights.  Every effort will be made by the League Secretary to accurately determine league standings from week to week.  In the event a potential mistake is identified, the league will bowl its matches in accordance with the posted standings and the League Secretary will research the facts surrounding the alleged mistake and report back the following week of bowling.  On the first night of bowling for the season, the schedule will be based on the previous year’s standings in an effort to be consistent with the ‘position night’ philosophy and to expedite starting in a timely matter.

5.      Prizes:                      A prize list shall be established before the end of the fourth week of the league and shall be accepted by the majority of the teams.  Anyone interested in submitting a list for vote should see the league Secretary for the pertinent information.

6.      Bowling Times:        This league shall begin each Wednesday night at 7:25 pm for ten minutes of practice; and league scoring shall begin at 7:35 pm sharp, continuing for 15 weeks and starting on May 24, 2023 through and including August 30, 2023.

7.      Tardy Players:          No member shall be allowed to enter a game in progress after the completion of the fourth (4th) frame for scoring in that game.  They may enter and complete the game for the purpose of practice only.  No unnecessary delays are to be allowed in order to field a legal line-up.

8.      Handicaps:               Handicaps shall be 90 percent of the difference between the bowler’s average and 230.  (If a bowler has an average of 180, their handicap would be 45 pins, or 90% of 50.)  All bowlers who have established averages based on the following criteria (in the order presented) shall retain this average through the first six games before establishing a new average in the league, and said handicap shall remain constant through these first six games:

1.  2022 Wednesday Plaza Summer Trio (21 game minimum)

2. Highest Avg from ‘21-’22 Morris County Winter Average (21 game minimum)

3. Highest Avg from ’22-’23 Hanover Lanes League Winter Avg (21 game minimum)

4. If, and as soon as, a bowler’s average is available on bowl.com, that more recent winter season average (with at least 21 games), will be used instead of 2 or 3 above.  The more recent winter season would be the ’22-’23 season.  The average available the first time that the bowler participates will be used for 6 games for purpose of determining handicap.

5.  2021 Wednesday Plaza Summer Trio (21 game minimum)

6.  Highest Avg from ’22 Morris County Summer Average Book (21 game minimum)

7. Highest Avg from ’19-’20 or ’20–’21 Winter Season on bowl.com (21 game minimum).  The more recent average will be used.

6.  Highest available Junior Bowling league average from prior two years that is on bowl.com.

Any bowler that does not have an average from the sources above shall establish their average on the first night and shall have their average progress from that night on.

The team maximum entering average is proposed to be 680.  (This is based on the highest final average of any of our teams from our prior league’s season (rounded up to the next higher 10 pins) so that all teams in our league last year will be allowed to re-enter the league).  This will change each year.  The entering average, for a bowler without an average, will be 225.

  9.    Blind Scores:           In the event that a regular bowler cannot bowl and it is decided that a Blind score must be used, the average of the missing bowler, less 15 pins, will be the blind score; and the handicap for that bowler shall be retained for the purpose of determining all pin fall for wins and losses.  The average used for determining the blind score will be the same average used for determining the handicap.   A vacancy score will be 150 plus 72 pins handicap.

9a.    Odd # of Teams       In the event that the league has an odd number of teams the last place/blind team will be made up of a blind score that is equal to 45 pins per game below the averages of the team that is bowling.  The average utilized (for 15 pin per player reduction) will be the average being used for that bowler’s handicap.  The match results will be determined without using handicaps.  If a team loses by exactly 45 pins the game will be considered a loss.  The Blind Team can win points in the match and will be placed in the league standings based on their accumulated points.

10.    Scoring:                    A total of seven points shall be awarded per night to a pair of teams in competition.  Two points for each game won and one point for total wood.  All scoring shall include handicaps for the purpose of determining wins and losses and total wood.  In the event of a tie, the points shall be split into either single or half points.  In the event that a team does not have any bowlers represent them at bowling, the opposing team will not automatically win seven points.  Instead, they will abide by the rule outlined in #9a. above, except that the absent team will not be eligible to win any points.

11.    Fees:                        Bowling fees payable each night shall be $30.00 per person per night for a total of $90.00 per team per night.  All moneys are due and payable each bowling night with the captains being responsible for the collection of said moneys.  These moneys are to be given to the Treasurer or the Control Desk as soon as possible and before the completion of the second game.  Should moneys from any team be in arrears at the end of the season, such moneys shall be deducted from the team prize moneys, and the Captains shall be obliged to distribute all moneys in a fair manner among team members.

All bowlers shall have paid all league fees by the 14th night of bowling so that prize moneys may be distributed on the final night of bowling.

Any team behind more than $90.00 in dues will forfeit their match.

12.    League

Expenditures:                    Each night of bowling, a fee of $12.00 is paid to the house as a bowling cost.  The remainder of the moneys collected shall be put into the prize fund with the exception of the Secretary and Treasurer fees payable at the end of the season. The Secretary and Treasurer will each receive $250 to cover expenses associated with their services.

13.    Postponements:       All postponement requests shall be submitted to the league Secretary or President.  Every effort will be made to accommodate the request; however, every team has an obligation to field a team on Wednesday nights.

14.    Play-Offs:                In the event that there is a tie at the end of the regular season, which is concluded by the points won and lost, not by the teams pin total, the two teams will bowl a match immediately following the last regularly scheduled game to determine the winner.  The winner will be the team to win a one game roll-off.  These rules apply only to the First and Second place teams.  Should a tie occur through any of the other positions, all moneys granted for those positions shall be pooled and distributed equally among the tied positions.

15.    Clinched

Championship:         Should the First place team mathematically secure first place before the completion of the final week of bowling, they will bowl the last place team during position round competition.  The spirit of this rule will also apply to second place, third place, etc.

16.    Distribution of

Prizes:                      All prizes and league moneys shall be distributed at the end of the last night of bowling after a short delay to determine all positions.  The Secretary and Treasurer’s fees are payable on demand based on the judgment and approval of the league President and Vice-President.

17.    Code of Conduct:     All bowlers are expected to exhibit behavior that is professional and respectful.   Bowlers must not engage in insulting or abusive language or behavior.  Nor, must they engage in bullying, intimidation or harassment.  They must speak to all opponents and league officials in a respectful manner.  The main disciplinary method in a bowling league is dismissal from the league.  A league member must file a written charge, and the board of directors must vote on the action to be taken.
